History

The Winterthur Polytechnic, the oldest of its kind in Switzerland, was founded in 1874 and has been inextricably involved with the development of Swiss engineering ever since. It started with 72 students and five schools, the original backbone being the then "School of Mechanical Engineering" . The 1998 merger with the School of Economics and Business Administration (HWV) and the Zurich School for Translation and Interpretion (DOZ), under the aegis of the ZHW, led to the formation of the School of Engineering in 2001.
