Industry’s current requirements provide the focal points of our research. In cooperation with partners from business as well as private and public institutions, we produce science-based, innovative concepts to solve problems in business and administration.
The 15 specialised institutes and centres of excellence of the ZHAW’s largest, longest established School work together closely on an  interdisciplinary
basis.
Research is practice-oriented and covers areas such as embedded systems, applied information technology, mechatronic systems, materials and process engineering, mechanics, biomechanical engineering and lightweight structures, data analysis and process design, operations management, business and financial mathematics, digital signal processing and communication engineering, sustainability and risk management. A new research field – transportation systems – has been introduced to improve the networking among our Institutes.

Based on a thorough understanding of the problem at hand and its specific operational context, our teams combine methods and project management skills to develop a working solution that creates added value for the customer.
