Programme aims
The ZHAW School of Engineering trains practically oriented mechanical engineers who act responsibly in context of people, technology and the environment. The Bachelor's degree programme is designed to prepare generalists with a sound knowledge of engineering to work in the most important areas of the machine industry at home and abroad. During their studies students gain the following competences:
Professional competence
Graduates are able to:
- transfer new findings from engineering science and the natural sciences into industrial and commercial production
- taking economic, ecological and safety requirements into account
- engage with cultural, political and social issues
- express themselves clearly and convincingly in speech and writing
Methodological competence
Graduates are able to:
- detect and analyse problems
- work on them systematically, taking technical and economic aspects into account
- tackle them independently or in a team
Social competence
Students acquire competences in the area of social interaction through regular experience of coming to grips with issues in different teams. They thus acquire such key qualifications as the readiness to cooperate, capacity for teamwork, leadership qualities and the ability to communicate.
Personal competence
Throughout their studies, students work on a variety of topics at different levels of complexity. They thus develop their independence, flexibility, resilience, ability to learn and the capacity to think in a structured way. In addition, graduates are able to extend their knowledge independently and understand the importance of being lifelong learners.
