Specialisation in Biomedical Engineering

On the job

Biomedical engineering is a future-oriented sector with a wide range of career options. Biomedical engineers work with complex systems, using components from mechanics, electronic engineering and computer science, to develop and maintain medical devices.
The Biomedical Engineering specialisation provides the necessary academic and technical skills to enable students to combine various engineering disciplines and to act as the interface between engineering and medicine.

Career opportunities

Biomedical engineers pursue interesting careers in medtech companies, hospitals and clinics, working in the areas of bio-signal analysis, orthopaedics, robotic surgery, image-guided systems and optical diagnostics.

Graduates typically take on roles in project management or other management tasks in the following areas:

  • simulations, calculations and testing
  • implementation, production and maintenance
  • marketing, consulting and training
